Health Centre sessions run until 31 January 2027. Dedicated children’s and pregnancy clinics have separate dates.
Free from 6 months of age
The flu vaccine is free from 6 months of age. Use the clinic suitable for your age and circumstances.
Health Centres and participating councils
Flu vaccination is available from 6 months of age through Health Centres and dedicated NIS clinics. Participating Local Council sessions are for people aged 13 and over.
Health Centre vaccination hours are 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The days differ by centre. Children and pregnant women have dedicated National Immunisation Service clinics from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the dates below.

WHERE AND WHEN
Vaccination times.
Get vaccinated at a Health Centre or book with a participating Local Council. The hours below are vaccination hours, rather than general clinic opening hours.
Health Centre vaccination times: ages 13 and over
Monday 2 November 2026 to Sunday 31 January 2027.
No appointment needed. Bring your identity card. People aged 13 to 17 need consent from a parent or legal guardian.
The programme includes flu, COVID-19 and pneumococcal vaccination, according to eligibility. Adult pneumococcal vaccination is for people over 60. The vaccination team will check which vaccines are suitable for you.

Parents or guardians should bring their identity card and the child’s Baby Book. Vulnerable children aged 6 months to 17 years need a doctor’s prescription for pneumococcal vaccination.

An annual flu vaccine helps reduce the risk of flu and serious illness.
Reduce your risk
Flu is an illness caused by a virus. It spreads easily and can cause serious illness. The vaccine helps reduce your risk of catching flu and becoming seriously ill.
Take care
The flu virus changes and protection fades over time. It is therefore recommended that you have the flu vaccine every year.
Allow about two weeks
After vaccination, your body takes about two weeks to build protection.
Protecting people at higher risk
Vaccination is especially important for vulnerable groups who are more at risk of flu complications. These include people aged 55 and over, children aged 6 months to 11 years, pregnant women, healthcare workers, care-home residents and people with long-term illnesses or weakened immunity.

Influenza, or flu, is an illness caused by influenza viruses. It spreads mainly through droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. Symptoms can include fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose, headache, muscle aches and tiredness. Many people recover in two to seven days, but flu can cause serious illness and complications such as pneumonia. It can affect people throughout the year.
The flu vaccine helps reduce the risk of flu, serious illness, complications, hospital admission and death. It is especially important for people at higher risk and those who care for them.
Priority groups include people aged 55 and over; children aged 6 months to 11 years; pregnant women; healthcare workers; people living in care homes and institutions; and people with long-term health conditions. These conditions include heart, lung, liver, kidney or neurological disease, chronic asthma, diabetes, and illnesses or treatments that weaken the immune system, including HIV.
Tell the vaccination team if you have had a severe allergic reaction to a previous flu vaccine or any of its ingredients. Egg allergy needs individual advice: the team can advise on the right vaccine and setting, especially if you have had anaphylaxis. If you have a fever on the day, postpone vaccination until you have recovered.
The injected flu vaccine is usually well tolerated. You may have soreness, redness or swelling where the injection was given.
